The development industry is pivotal to a strong and prosperous economy for our region. For every $1M in spend in the development industry this equates to
- $600,000 in gross regional product
- $84,000 in state and federal taxes
- 4.2 full time jobs
Direct employment is generated in a diverse range of vocations including architects, engineers, valuers, ecologists and real estate agents to name a few. Further, the construction industry directly benefits through the employment of tradesman, civil contractors and the like. Opportunities in employment are also generated individually for solicitors, marketing, retail suppliers and more.
But most importantly, a strong development industry provides confidence in our region.
I am looking forward to working with the new Council and Executive Team and staff to foster positive outcomes for sustainable development and facilitiation of the growth projected for the Fraser Coast in the coming years. To assist in achieving this, a major priority will be the completion of the first Consolidated Planning Scheme for the Fraser Coast. Work is well progressed and Council will be looking to seek public and industry comment later this year.
Council will be continuing its commitment to working with the industry through such groups as the UDIA Fraser Coast Branch and the Development Industry Reference Group to engage on a variety of planning and development issues and to foster a strong partnership with the development industry.
